Rating: 4/5 – A really unique twist on the “prison escape” story.
Brady Sullivan has written a prison break story that mixes with time travel in one of the most unique twists I’ve ever seen on the genre. We have a group of 6 prisoners (3 male and 3 female) in a high-security facility that plan an escape only to have something go wrong that causes them to begin hopping through time. I give a hearty round of applause to the solution Sullivan came up with that allowed our group of prisoners to speak with the locals when they end up in ancient Rome. It’s NOT the old “universal translator” gimmick used by most everyone else.
Amilton Santos has done inking for both Marvel and DC but here is doing pencils + inks. It’s kind of fun to watch the art get better as you read though the 70+ pages of this OGN (it appears to have started as a 3 issue series, but has been released as a complete GN). I’ll be keeping my eye out for future work by Santos.
The story is “mature readers” with ultra-violence, sexual situations, and moderate language. No nudity but plenty of blood, for those keeping score and who follow the grand USA tradition of being OK with seeing someone get shot or having a limb hacked off as long as there are no naked breasts.
I don’t want to spoil the story by going into too many details, but I’ll give a few highlights. They hit the Jurassic (and dinosaurs), the civil war, ancient Rome, the Crusades, and WWII in their travels. It also does not shy away from the alternate history mold and changes do occur as a result of meddling in the time stream. It’s always fun to see an author embrace that in a time-travel story. At $3.99 for 70+pages of story and art this is a good deal and fans of action, sci-fi and time travel stories should check it out.
