The Bunker #1-3 (Hoarse and Buggy/Comixology)

Rating: 4.5/5 – Fialkov sure knows how to set up a story!

There are three issues of “The Bunker” available on Comixology and let me tell you, after reading #1 I was left with a reinforced feeling that Josh Fialkov really knows how to weave a #1 issue that made me want to pick up #2 right away.   This is a new monthly digital series (#1 was out Aug 5th, #2 Sept 4th, and #3 debuting Oct. 2nd), so you can catch up on past issues and follow along with this as the story develops.

This is both a pre- and post-apocalyptic story.  Five friends find a mysterious bunker in the woods while planning to bury a time capsule.  The weird thing is that it has 4 of their names written on the hatch!  Inside are letters, written in their own handwriting – apparently from their future selves, describing a future they’d do almost anything to prevent from happening.

Joe Infurnari’s art is a perfect match for this story, precise enough to convey the story with precision but rough around the edges which lends a nice quality and conveys the dark mood necessary for this story to work.

I don’t want to give away any details of the story beyond what I mention above, but suffice to say that after 3 issues, I’m on board for this series and look forward to seeing where Josh & Joe take us.
