Dead Future King #1 ([sic] Monkie)

Rating: 4.5/5 – Excellent Pacing, Great First Issue
King Arthur awakens after his apparent death in a future overrun by zombies. Based on the premise alone, I expected this to be something of a light hearted book. However, the writing takes on a serious and very well-put together tone that lends the book a gravity that’s rare to find in comics.

David R. Flores’ story is just getting off the ground but the first issue covers a lot of ground with well-done pacing and an easy to follow story structure.  It’s Flores on the art too, which does a great job in conveying the harsh environment of the future world Arthur finds himself in.  We revisit characters from Arthurian legend, like the Lady of the Lake & Merlin, with a really unique twist that makes the story stand out.

The overall package is very well done and is a great start to this series.
