Subatomic Party Girls #1 (Monkey Brain Comics)

Rating: 4/5 – Praise Be To The See-Gar!!!

Sometimes, you just need to sit back, relax and laugh. This amazing digital comic is brought to us by Chris Sims and Chad Bowers (Awesome Hospital) with art by Erica Henderson (Atomic Robo). The story revolves around a power pop trio being launched into space in an effort to be the first band to play on the moon. The band’s ship is sabotaged and sent into deep space where our protagonists encounter space pirates.

What I enjoyed most about the book was Sims and Bowers capturing the feel of a ‘kids comic’ but yet having jokes and humor only adults (especially old folks like me) would get. This is one of those comics that when you read a second time you catch things you missed.

Henderson’s art was clean, crisp and vibrant. The characters came to life and popped off the page. Her style complemented the tone of the book and made me very excited to see the second issue and she is definitely the unsung hero of the creative team.

Subatomic Party Girls is currently on sale at Comixology for 99 cents. It is a great deal to try this rollicking good time.
